Session Overview: This session will explore two paediatric case, one a baby referred from the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening programme and identified with a significant permanent hearing loss bilaterally. It will examine the diagnostic assessment, discuss the considerations for choosing appropriate amplification, options for validation of the hearing aid fitting and decision making regarding ongoing management. The second case will explore a school aged child with a progressive steeply sloping sensorineural hearing loss. It will explore the challenges of completing an accurate hearing assessment, discussion on support for the family to engage with amplification, and considerations for referral to a cochlear implant assessment.
